A severed goat’s head with a broken jaw

Trieste:

Grisly “message” delivered to leader of environmental protection organization

Intimidation in the manner of the Mafia or a sect

Trieste, April 6, 2010. Environmentalist Roberto Giurastante, leader of the organization Greenaction Transnational and chairperson of the Italian branch of the international environmental protection organization Alpe Adria Green – Italia, found a grisly delivery on the doorstep of his home on Tuesday, 6.04.2010 such as one would expect from the Mafia or a dangerous sect: a small severed goat’s head whose horns had been sawed off, with a broken jaw. Police say investigations are in progress.

Giurastante found the bloody missive after returning from the Greenaction offices, when he noticed a bulge in the doormat and lifted it. It seems that the goat’s head (depicted in the photos) belonged to either a smaller species of goat or a kid. The head had been recently severed and only partially skinned, the horns sawn off and the jaw broken.

Therefore one can conclude that it was not merely refuse from some abattoir, but carefully styled so as to convey a “message” of intimidation, such as those delivered by the Mafia or radical sects. Both the DIGOS (Division of General Investigations and Special Operations) and the Carabinieri, who bagged and removed the evidence for further investigation, were called to the scene.

This is not the first threat or vengeful act aimed at Mr. Giurastante, who has received several due to his ecological activities, particularly in recent times. Mr. Giurastante began working for the environment when he joined the Friends of the Earth club (Amici della Terra-FoE of Trieste), of which he was formerly the regional chair and now secretary of their local office, after which he joined the Greenaction organization, over which he currently presides, and also cooperates with the international network Alpe Adria Green, which Greenaction is a part of.

The activities, research and reports of irregularities submitted to Italian and European government bodies by these organizations can be viewed at www.greenaction.planet.org and pertain mainly to the issue of concessions and illegal waste dumping allegedly connected to the Mafia and certain religious sects, traces of whose rites were discovered by environmentalists in the Karst region and reported to the authorities.

A witness, whose testimony supported the evidence submitted by these environmental organizations, recently also died under suspicious circumstances. Soon after, Giurasante published the pilot version of his book, in which he describes these events, which may have incensed those connected with them and the circles they move in even further.

Ustrahovanje v stilu mafije ali sekt

Trst, 6. aprila 2010 Okoljevarstveni voditelj Roberto Giurastante, iz organizacij Greenaction Transnational in predsednik podružnice mednarodne okoljske organizacije Alpe Adria Green- Italija, je v torek 6.4.2010 na pragu svojega doma prejel grozljivo »obvestilo« v stilu mafije in sekt: majhno odsekano kozjo glavo z odrezanimi rogovi in napol zlomljenimi usti. Preiskave so v teku.

Giurastante je našel to krvavečo zadevo pod preprogo, ker je opazil nabreklino pod njim, ko se je popoldne vrnil iz urada Greenaction. Zdi se, da kozja glava (gl. sliko) pripada majhni rasi teh živali ali pa gre za mlad primerek, glava je pred kratkim odsekana, koža ni povsem olupljena in, kot že rečeno, so rogovi odsekani in usta na pol zlomljena.

Ne zdi se torej, da bi to bil ostanek kakšne klavnice, ampak »sporočilo« namenjeno ustrahovanju v popolnem stilu mafije in sekte. Zato so na kraj dogodka prispeli tako DIGOS (preiskovana enota policije) kot orožniki, ki so odnesli dokaz.

Prejemnik je že nekaj časa predmet raznih groženj in maščevanj na račun njegovih najbolj aktualnih okoljskih aktivnosti, s katerimi se je ukvarjal prej s klubom Prijateljev zemlje (Amici della Terra-FoE iz Trsta), katerega je lokalni tajnik in bivši pokrajinski predsednik, potem pa z organizacijo Greenaction, katere je predsednik, in s sodelovanjem v mednarodni mreži Alpe Adria Green, v katero spada tudi Greenaction.

Aktivnosti, preiskave in prijave na italijanskih in evropskih sedežih, ki sta jih izvedli ti organizaciji, so dostopne na: www.greenaction.planet.org in se nanašajo predvsem na izvedbe koncesij in nezakonita odlagališča smeti, z domnevnimi mafijskimi povezovanji in nekaterimi sektami, katerih sledi njihovih obredov so okoljevarstveniki našli na Krasu in jih tudi prijavili. Dobili so tudi eno pričo, ki je potem umrla v nepojasnjenih okoliščinah. Giurastante je nekaj tednov od tega tudi objavil poskusno izdajo svoje knjige, kjer opisuje vse te dogodke, kar je lahko še bolj zmotilo vpletene osebe ali okolja.

Trieste, 6 aprile 2010. – Il dirigente ambientalista triestino Roberto Giurastante, di Greenaction Transnational ed Alpe Adria Green, ha ricevuto oggi (6.4.) sulla soglia di casa un “avviso” macabro nello stile delle mafie e delle sette: una piccola testa caprina mozzata con le corna troncate e la bocca semifracassata. Sono in corso indagini.

Giurastante ha trovato il sanguinoso reperto sotto il tappetino, notandovi un rigonfiamento al rientro pomeridiano dall’ufficio di Greenaction. La testa caprina (v. foto) sembra appartenere ad una specie nana o ad un esemplare giovane, è mozzata di fresco, non completamente spellata, e come detto con le corna troncate e la bocca semifracassata.

Non sembra quindi un resto di comune macelleria, ma un "messaggio" intimidatorio in piena regola, nello stile di mafie o sette. Sono perciò intervenuti sul posto la DIGOS ed i Carabinieri, che hanno prelevato il reperto.

Il destinatario è in effetti oggetto da tempo di varie minacce e ritorsioni per le sue attività ambientaliste di punta prima con il Club Amici della Terra-FoE di Trieste, di cui è segretario locale ed ex presidente regionale, poi con Greenaction, della quale è presidente, e con la rete internazionale Alpe Adria Green di cui Greenaction fa parte.

Le attività, inchieste e denunce principali di queste associazioni in sede italiana ed europea sono accessibili sul sito www.greenaction.planet.org, e riguardano in particolare cartelli degli appalti e delle discariche abusive, con supposte connessioni mafiose, ed alcune sette delle quali gli ambientalisti hanno rinvenuto e denunciato numerose tracce di riti sul Carso, reperendone anche un testimone poi deceduto in circostanze non chiarite. Giurastante ha anche pubblicato e diffuso da qualche settimana l’edizione di prova di un suo libro dettagliato su tutte queste vicende, che può avere perciò disturbato ulteriormente persone od ambienti coinvolti.
